For every problem, there’s a solution. With that thought in mind, the reel cover was developed by Albers Zeilmakerij B.V. During cold periods, cable processing becomes a challenge for many infrastructure companies because the conduit is much stiffer than in warmer periods. This quickly leads to coiling, resulting in cables being able to be inserted/blown in less far than in warmer periods. This inevitably leads to extra boreholes and therefore extra costs.

The reel cover is easy to use and can be mounted by one person. By applying hot air underneath the reel cover, the conduit heats up. After approximately 30 minutes of heating (depending on the power of the air heater), the conduit is sufficiently warmed up, preventing coiling from occurring.

In summary, the benefits of using the reel cover are as follows:

  • Tubes can be quickly and easily removed from the reel.
  • No coiling occurs with a flexible tube.
  • A tube that remains straight after unrolling does not cause traffic obstruction (a coil takes up a lot of space).
  • Forcing a cold coiled tube straight (to push it into the trench) can lead to torsion in the tube. This may cause issues later with inserting/blowing cables.
